Paint Party Friday....New Altered Pez
Happy Weekend and Happy Paint Party Friday! I had big plans to do some other art this week but life got busy and all I was able to finish was this new little altered Pez girl. I have also been working on opening an Etsy shop and am almost done, just need to complete a few more steps. A little scary but exciting too!
I can't believe it's almost the end of August already! Thanks so much for visiting and hope you have a great weekend. xo

New Altered Pez Totem....My Heart is Blue
New altered Pez Candy Dispenser Totem I am working on today...she is almost finished. I have been thinking of a name, so far 'My Heart is Blue' is what seems to fit. Will post another pic once she's all done. xo

Altered Pez Dispenser Totem #2
My second altered Pez Dispenser totem. I named him Time Baby Buddha. He has watch parts imbedded in his body and head...and my son said he looked like a little Buddha. So that's how he got his name!
Here he is after the first couple layers of paint....
And here is how he looked as the clay was drying.
His Pez Dispenser base is the one with the pink head, second from the right. Making these is soooo much fun! xo

Altered Pez Dispenser...how cool is this?
I have been taking Michael DeMeng's Pez Dispensing Totem Workshop and here is my first altered Pez dispenser! He's a simple little guy that I've named Little Jack. I'm most proud of the fact that he still dispenses Pez candy even after all the altering and sculpting.
Here's how the Pez started out, a cute little purple monster. Now that I've done my first 'test' Pez, I'm going to try something a little more complex in design. So much fun!!

Paint Party Friday...Tamed and Tagged
"Tamed and Tagged" by Kim Smith 2013
Happy Weekend and Happy PPF! For this week I am showing you the art work I made for the Week One Peer Assessment assignment for the Intro to Art Concepts course I am taking on Coursera. (Coursera offers free courses online from major universities around the world, I LOVE taking their classes and am really enjoying the Art Concepts course.)
Week One was about the Fantastic Art genre with artists like Chagall, Dali and Fuchs being discussed and studied. I have no background in any of this so it was a real learning experience. And although I don't think I really hit the mark with my piece, I got a 23 out of 25 in the Peer Assessment...not bad!
This was done on heavy cardstock with collaged images from magazines, acrylics, gesso, stencils, inks and pencil. The composition is a little off but I decided not to try to fix it because I really loved how it turned out.
Thanks for visiting for my blog and I so appreciate your comments! xo

Paint Party Friday...Art Amateur
"The Art Amateur" by Kim Smith 2013
Something a little different for this week! I had this canvas prepped with black gesso for a workshop project that I have no idea what it was for anymore. I decided to do this mixed media painting with collage, acrylic paints, pens, inks and glitter but wanted to keep the background dark and simple. Not easy for someone who always wants to add layers and layers! The woman is a black and white photo that I tinted with pens, inks and acrylics...the collage images are from Itkupilli. I really loved doing this one!
Happy Weekend and Happy PPF!

Altered Vintage Book Journal
I decided to switch gears last week and work on something I hadn't done in a while. I love art journals even though I don't work in them very often and thought it would be fun to alter an old hymnal I had on the shelf. I'm still playing with the details but the front is just about done. Next I'm going to work on the inside and prepare the pages for writing (should have done that first!) xo

Paint Party Friday...
Happy Mothers Day to everyone in the US and Happy PPF! This week I switched to something a little different, one of the Art Eye Candy workshops by Rachel Panagarry. This face is from her template, then the details are painted on mulberry paper/bristol paper using watercolors, pencils, acrylics and pens, then collaged onto a mixed media background on canvas. No beeswax on this piece, the mulberry paper for the face gives a soft look. I also coated the entire piece with spray fixative when I was done. You can also find an inexpensive tutorial called The Magic of Mulberry by Rachel on ClothPaperScissors!
Hope you have a great weekend and to see more great art please visit the Paint Party Friday!

Paint Party Friday...
"She Dreams Deep" by Kim Smith 2013. Please do not take painting images without permission.
Happy Weekend and Happy PPF! I finally made myself do a mixed media painting this week for Mindy LaceField's TrueFreeSpirit workshop. It's a year long workshop with a project every month. I adore Mindy's style and was very excited to learn more...until I went to paint and realized I was so worried about making a painting that would look like hers that I eventually convinced myself I couldn't do it! I did a few sketches but just couldn't get past the block when it came to painting. So this week, I just decided to Do It! And 'She Dreams Deep' is the result. I am very happy with how she turned out and am looking forward to my next painting in this style.
And for you to download and play with, here are two Gelli Plate Print backgrounds I also made in the workshop...Click on each pic then right click to download. Have Fun!

She Dreams of Time....
"She Dreams of Time Before Forever" is a mixed media painting on matboard. The inspiration for this piece was my nostalgia for the past when life seemed so much simpler, the world alot safer and finding your place just seemed to be so much easier. That the notion of 'forever' always seemed to move forward in time with us but now only appears to be a phantom of times past.
This piece is collage, acrylic paint, gesso, spray inks, stamps, stencils, pens and pencils layered on matboard. The vintage image was embellished and colored with paints, pens and inks.
I am linking to Paint Party Friday and Three Muses Challenge for this week. Please be sure to check these blogs and take look at all the fabulous art. Thanks so much for visiting and have a great weekend everyone! xo

A MInd Must Open to Bloom
My February 4x6 vintage gluebook page for French themed challenge on the Marie Antoinette mailart group, made using images from new kit by ItKuPilli Imagenarium, ArsLonga, on DeviantScrap. The background, scroll, bird and woman images are from the kit. The floral border and quote are from a scrapbook kit by K&Company. I glued everything down and then layered acrylic paints, inks, pen and pencil...and lots of glitter to give it a vintage look. Please be sure to check out all the fabulous designers on DeviantScrap!
p.s. I am linking this piece to the TakeAWord blog challenge this week!

Paint Party Friday!
Happy Valentines Day and Happy PPF! This week I decided to stay with the bright colors and do a mixed media piece with tissue paper, gesso, pens, spray inks and stencils. "Thy Art Be True" is a mixed media painting on wood. I feel like this piece represents my need to develop my own style and look inside to create rather than trying to emulate what I see in the workshops I take. I am very grateful for those workshops, I am always learning new things but my true goal is to develop my own style. Thanks for visiting and hope you have a great weekend! xo

Paint Party Friday.....
Hi, Happy Friday and Happy PPF! I did this painting this week in Heather Murray's 'Minnie...A Maxi Mixed Media Painting Workshop' on TheTroddenPath. This is collage and acrylics on wood, the face is a vintage photo that I painted over to give her life and then the body of her dress was created with acrylic paints. Loved doing this painting and am starting a second one today. It was alot harder than I thought it would be to create a body for her with just acrylic paint on a narrow background. I'm hoping the next one will flow a little better...but I'm very happy with this one and loved learning something new!
Have a great weekend!
