Paint Party Friday!

Happy PAINTPARTYFRIDAY!  This week I have a 5x6 mixed media painting on wood that I did in the ChickCandyWorkshop by Rachelle Panagarry. The style is much different than the painting I did last week, huh?  So much fun to do this one. I am trying to go out of my comfort zone of vintage/neutrals and make some art using bright colors and more modern designs. This little painting isn't perfect but I am happy with it...and it's very personal to me because this past week I went from 'stay at home mom' to 'empty nester'. What a mixed bag of feelings but mostly just lots of tears, grief and loneliness. I think I have a hole in my heart the size of Texas....Thank goodness I have ART to fill that void!

This little mixed media painting on canvas was also done in the ChickCandy workshop and is my Day 7 for the 29FACESARTCHALLENGE....The Empty Nest painting is my Day 8 for the challenge. If you would like to see my 29Faces post on my blog that I update regularly, here is the LINK.

Happy PPF and 29FACES everyone and hope you have a great weekend! xo

This is such a sweet piece .... the eyes say it all!

I am expecting to be an 'empty nester' later this year so it is 'speaking to me'

What a wonderful piece of art. Don't worry, I have been in an empty nest for 20 years now since both my sons left for University. You get used to it and soon you start to enjoy being YOU again. Happy PPF.

Both your paintings are beautiful and expressive. I can really feel the loss in the "empty nest" painting on wood. Years ago I was where you are. I hope your nest will not stay empty but will have many wonderful visits with your adult child(ren?). You stated it so correctly: you have a hole in your heart the size of Texas. My daughter went to college in TX and stayed there. She still lives there 28 years past graduation. The hole does eventually get to be the size of Rhode Island.

what beautiful portraits!! They do seem a bit sad. I'm lucky that although our only child moved out after college, he lives only a few miles away and has dinner with us most Sundays-that helps-along with the fact that I got his old bedroom as my art room :)

K - LOVE them both! The empty nest stuff is tough. Been there (so wish I could have done the stay-at-home-mom stuff) - but I still keep close tabs on both my boys (within reason) and they don't seem to mind at all ... and chickens???? I so want chickens (and eggs) have a great weekend and happy PPF! Off to visit more of your world :)

Your mixed media pieces are adorable. I imagine I will be just as sad when I move from SAHM to an empty nester too! (But I still have a few years left before that happens!) x

Kristin said...

Awe, that must be so difficult! I too am a SAHM and KNOW that it will be a sad time when she leaves the nest. Beautiful faces here - I LOVE all that color and the expression in the eyes both here and in your piece below, xo!

Being an empty nester was a challenge for me at first but it does get easier. All 3 of my kids are on their own and doing well. Still miss them heaps!

Well that's my plan too...fill the hole with art! I love her and her eyes especially. I'm a sucker for bright colors. Good to express yourself with this outlet. Even if they need to be sad or happy to make you happy!! HUGS!

Sweet girls! I'm sure you'll take advantage of the empty nest and you'll be that more excited when they come to visit. :)
